Default Ministers tell councils to push contraceptive jabs and implants

Quote:
Ministers have ordered council and health chief executives to increase the uptake of "long-acting" contraception in teen pregnancy "hot spots".
The government also wants more school-based clinics to administer the jabs, which can make girls infertile for up to three months.
Teenagers can receive the injections or implants without their parents' knowledge.

Hmmm... while I agree that something needs to be done about decreases the amount of teen pregnancies there are, the idea that they're planning on allowing young girls to receive these injections or implants without parental knowledge disturbs me. How are we supposed to be responsible parents if we don't know what medication/medical treatments etc our children are receiving? Also, contraception is not a guaranteed method of birth control - I know this for a fact, having been on the pill for four out of five of my pregnancies and being caught out each time. This isn't going to teach kids sexual responsibility and that's what they should be doing.

That's the real point. It's just an instant Nescafe answer, the kind which has become popular. Contraception was once under the umbrella of "family planning", and the word "planning" suggests thoughtful and informed decision-making.

Anyway, parental access to their kids' health affairs is now seen as invading their privacy.

That means substances are going to be injected into kids' bodies that affect their endocrine systems. IMO that is something not to be done lightly. It needs to be done with care, after consultation with one's own medical doctor and careful consideration of all possible consequences, not done at a school clinic.

Why not just go the whole way and spay them? You'll all hate me for saying this, but PARENTS - their fault, because the majority of parents of these teen mums (know a couple myself) haven't taught their kids what's right and what's wrong, and reinforced it! It's also society's for making it soo easy to have kids at such a young age, it should be frowned upon rather than seen as "just one of those things".

Maybe if they didn't have just a readily available cash flow it would make things more difficult for them.
