Very true. This campaign.....and election....has been unprecedented on several levels. I do believe America is finally waking up.

So, pardon me as an ignorant foreigner, but could it be that with a turn to the Democrats, the US might also be thinking about what "democracy" means? For example, it doesn't mean if you don't like the election result, you shoot a president so you get a new one? If you don't like someone's opinion, you shoot them? If you don't like the way another country is run, you invade it?

Sorry, should have warned you to check my mood indicator before trotting out the same old US-bashing comments... we ate our grumpy cereal this morning.

Now the dust is settling, let's get into blood letting. Ms. Palin has been described thus;

Quote:
For comedians... "she is a gift that will keep on giving".
The article at Blame begins with 'hillbilly' Palin | The Australian airs some of the internal issues which the author proposes served to take the edge of any coherent last-minute campaign efforts for McCain and Palin.

Believe it or not, I hear what you're saying and know where you're coming from. If you'll notice I said "waking", not "awoke". Sadly, we still have a long road to stroll on a Human level; let alone as Americans. And the truth of that, in response to your first example, is: there's always one or a group of idiots out there with an agenda they think can be served with a gun. To quote, in paraphrase, a line from dialogue in one of my favorite sci-fi series (Babylon 5) "It'll take several hundred more years to breed a better Human being". Which pretty much addresses your second example, too.

Bottom line: Hope springs eternal.

I didn't vote for Mr. Obama. With that said, neither did I vote for the old man and his trophy VP, but I did vote. I look forward to seeing what the President elect shall do in the future. His tasks will be long and arduous. It has been an interesting few days listening to people spout bullshit about the man that won by a huge margin. I am looking forward to what he does while in office with some anxiety, but also with some excitement. When the nay sayers start in I respond with- Let the man get in office before you start condemning him. Let's see what happens first.

This is a great time in American and world history. I, for one, feel awesome to have been here and witnessed this history in the making. And I am proud of my country for doing something everyone seemed to feel couldn't be done. Now I pray that some inbred idiots don't do something stupid because our President elect is black. Because that would undo all feelings of goodwill that we now share with the world. And show them that we are the idiots they seem to think we are.

The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

Thanks for deleting the double post for me Hangman. Was in a huge rush and my laggy router apparently went haywire.

Well said, Helena! The inbred "patriots" just are not able to realise that making the election result "right" in their own eyes simply says the democratic system runs second to fire-power, and the America-bashers were right all along. In other words - they are the traitors to the US, themselves.

One of the guys at the office today was online trying to find Obama jokes, now that we won't have Miss Alaska to kick around anymore (well, not as much, anyway.) Didn't find many yet, but there's plenty of funny stuff about the election in general. Here's some by various comedians:

Quote:
"You know who I blame? The Large Hadron Collider. It is the world's largest and highest particle accelerator. You may remember we were warned that it could create a black hole and destroy the Earth. Consider this: it launched in mid-September, when John McCain was leading in the polls. I believe it jolted us into a parallel universe that was exactly like our own, only Barack Obama is president and the Phillies are world champions."
---Stephen Colbert

"Yesterday, first lady Laura Bush called Michelle Obama and invited her and her young daughters to the White House. Laura Bush told Mrs. Obama, 'While I give you a tour, the girls can watch SpongeBob with the president.'"
---Conan O'Brien

"People all over the world are celebrating Obama’s victory. Sarah Palin watched the Russians celebrating from her house. ... Sen. John McCain’s concession speech was beautiful. It was dignified, and it was classy. And I think the reason for that is he didn’t let Palin say anything."
---Craig Ferguson
-
"President Bush called Barack Obama to congratulate him. ... Obama thanked Bush for his call and for all he did to help Obama get elected."
---Jimmy Kimmel
