You know, to think that God would be worried about whether people "believe" in it/her/him, or call it/her/him by the right name, is rather absurd. Why would it matter?

One of his worst marketing decisions!
"I, your god, am an egotistical neurotic. Thou shalt grovel to my delicate ego or I will smite thee."

Anyhoo, bullies probably don't need marketing tactics.

Okaay..well, I'm pretty much with Hangman on this one. Our species needed to give responsibility over to a higher being when we were in our infancy, but now we know more about our planet and the universe it exists in, we've long since outgrown the need.

How the whole god myth was so all emcompassing in the first place, I really don't understand, when there were races such as the Egyptians and the Mayans who seem to have had an understanding of the universe, (unless they really did have time-travelling or space travelling visitors but that's another debate!) or more home grown worshippers of Mother Earth and Pagan religions who actually worshipped the reality of life - whatever made the crops grow, seasons change and night turning into day!

This God entity seemed to get a lot of credit for smiting people but not much useful stuff!

And, for goodness sake, evolution anyone?

Just smile, nothing else annoys them as much.

Oh, lord (pardon the expression ) ... that raises another question for our little discussion here. Is evolution incompatible with the existence of "God"?

Since I've said in a previous post here that science and spirituality/religion are two separate belief systems, I don't see the two as being mutually exclusive.

But then I'm neither a fundamentalist Christian who takes a literal view of the Bible (seven days! no more, no less!), nor a fundamentalist scientist.

Ohhhh evolution vs creationism....... which a lot of these religious schools teach. If we had any truly religious people here we could have a great discussion about those two... not sure if we can really have an unbiased discussion as we all seem so.... well... not religious LOL

I just wanted to throw this in here... no other reason than I like the quote

Quote:
If God is willing to prevent evil, but is not able to
Then He is not omnipotent.

If He is able, but not willing
Then He is malevolent.

If He is both able and willing
Then whence cometh evil?

If He is neither able nor willing
Then why call Him God?
